words and video by Zach Chamberlin
“When I got there I was thinking, “dude, what the hell is going on?” I couldn’t see shit because the 10 foot walls were blasting white hot sun from all directions. This situation was way out of my league. I woke up regular- phone keys wallet bag ziploc- and to go cruise around the streets- but the homie Josh I just linked had to go to work- meanwhile we got mixed up with Simon and he was gonna go skate a pool with Chris Cope just outside of sf. So he swoops us! We pull up and it seemed like a wealthy area. Raney Beres was there with all the intel. We walk up to the fence and the pool is fucking massive- for the whole community kinda shit.
We hop the fence and I’m blown away. I don’t even wanna try and explain the pool -just imagine the sickest one you can- it’s 10 feet with an insane amount of vert. It felt like a wallride to me. The bottom has two rectangle death traps and some spots on the wall were seeping juice. There’s a top lip and a top top lip. No shit. By the time my eyes adjusted to the blaring sun Chris had already hand planted this shit. Raney within a few minutes was already high as fuck and hypin Simon to get even wilder than normal. Within 10 minutes it was a full on insane pool session. No cameras or phones or anything. I was thinking holy shit these dudes are the fucking sickest- in soul skater mode right now. But I asked Simon “hey is it chillin if I film?” Of course. I’m convinced the session would have been at least that gnarly if I wasn’t filming. Everyone was ripping and I had no idea what was gonna happen next. So fun. Thanks guys for letting me film the most epic pool session of my life.
Ryan Barlow wallrides so high he might as well be in a pool so the video transitions to him. Blasting Ollies like a butterfly and stinging kickflips like a bee grace this section of sf streets. Skateboarding is great on its own. Like a donut. It doesn’t need much or anything else. But a few sprinkles can make it magical. This full length video “A Visual Mixtape” aims towards the bright moments that make skateboarding feel magical and make us want to go skate. We hope this section of the video makes you wanna skate- and watch the rest of the video.”
