Ramp’s Out Back: Soul Bowl pt. 2

Photos and words by Marcus Waldron.

This is the second Ramps Out Back we’ve done on this bowl. We did one in Issue 23, back in 2014, with words by John Gardner right after he had moved out. I had recently moved to New York and was looking for a place when I saw Fritz was moving to Hawaii and was asking if anyone wanted his spot. I’ve been staying there since, and trying to learn to skate this tight crusty thing I call home.

During quarantine everyone stayed home and we skated the bowl like it was the antidote. I couldn’t imagine anything better for a month stuck at home than a few good roommates and a backyard with something to skate in it. It really gave me a new found appreciation for bowls and backyard ramps.

Over the past year I also decided to rip the roof off the little shack attached to the bowl and replace it with more concrete. Luckily it worked. Big ups to Sloan, Graver, Sean, and everyone at the house that helped. The bowl is still evolving and continues to get skated regularly. As long as the landlord doesn’t find out, it seems like it’s here to stay.
