Small Sweaters is a part filmed by Zach Harrington featuring Alex Moran during a summer spent in San Jose. Zach shared some insight into the making of this clip and how the whole thing came about.
I was wondering if you could tell me more about the filming process for this part? How did you end up in San Jose?
I had an internship in the area for the summer and didn’t really know many people, but started skating this Plaza in Downtown San Jose called Cesar Chavez Plaza which is where I met Alex and his homies.
Is Alex from SJ or was he visiting as well?
Alex is an SJ local and so are most of his friends. After a couple weeks of skating and becoming friends with them, I asked Alex if he wanted to film a trick or something and after that I would just bring my DVX when I would go to skate the plaza.
Was going out filming something that became more organized, or did you guys keep it pretty low-pressure?
It definitely wasn’t something I really organized a lot, I would just show up with my camera in my backpack and see if anyone wanted to hit a spot or if they would rather just cruise or chill at the plaza or whatever. Definitely very low pressure. I kinda figured I would just film when people were feeling it over the summer and if I had enough footage by the time I left I would make a video and if not I would just slide everyone their clips for Instagram or whatever cause I enjoy filming regardless.
How did you come up with the title Small Sweaters?
At the end of the intro section to that house song, our friend Travion says “small sweaters over big sweaters you feel me, they ain’t never gonna fit” which I thought was funny so I ran with it. It doesn’t really have a lot of meaning, I just kinda hate coming up with titles and I didn’t wanna make Alex wait on me while I tried to come up with something that was meaningful but also that didn’t feel corny.
Thanks Zach.
