Dante’s dad Edmund was claiming to me for months that he was building a bowl in his backyard. I didn’t believe him. He contacted Carlos from FDR and held a meeting to discuss his plan. A few days later a bobcat was in his backyard shaping transitions. His dad is one of the nicest dudes I’ve ever met. He hustled his surfboards, tool box, and pawned an antique model of a ship all to get extra cash for concrete.
His parents also house and fed a building crew for the entire summer. Over 60 bags of Portland were hand mixed. And 20 yards of concrete came from trucks in carious increments. $400 was spent on pizza. I learned so much during the entire build. And there are too many stories to tell about the whole process.
One that stands out was deciding to mix an entire over vert pocket at 3pm. The whole thing collapsed around 2 am and it wasn’t finished until sometime around 3pm the following day. A few dudes worked through the night fueled by Adderall and beer and somehow got it done.
Thank you to Dante’s mom Dina for always feeding us, Carlos, Jack R. Cox, Chad, Texas Jason, Jesse Clayton, TZ, Dirty Matt, Baby Kev, Lauren and everyone else who came out to lend a hand. If you ever make it out to a party at Dante’s, thank his dad for being one of the best dudes out there and giving us all a place to skate.
