No dude, it’s really because it’s close to where I live and I know a ton of spots around here. I don’t know, I just like to skate here. I still have a lot of tricks I want to get on these spots.

What’s up with the HBK? What’s it all about?
Oh my God, there are so many, but I’m going to start off with Heather’s Butt Crew, cause there was this girl named Heather who had this booty. But it was also Heath, Bam, and Kerry because those were Sam, Diaz, and Yuma’s favorite skaters. There were some other ones, but I’m not going to bring all of them up. Horny Borracho Kids, Half Baked Kids – the cops gave us that one. The actually tried to declare us a gang because we had it spray painted on our grip tape and they found a paint pen once.

No we were more like a multicultural gang of dumbasses that like to get fucked up. That shit wasn’t common back then like nowadays where every other dumbass has a g-pen and takes dabs to be cool.
What do you think about good style in skateboarding these days?
Dude it’s like all of the above, like music and shit. You like one style of music, but then you might be interested in another style too. Or you might discover something new and be like “that shit is funky, I want to get into that.” There’s a rhythm to the way each skater does their tricks, the arm movements. Every skater has their own look. I feel like Jerry Hsu or someone said this, but you can tell a specific skater’s style by just their silhouette.
Whose style has you stoked in skateboarding?
That’s a tough one of course, but I’m going to go with Zered Bassett because that dude is still holding it down out there. I’m stoked when I see his footage. He had some sick shit in the new Converse video. Also Jaws, because the first time I saw him skate was in Happy Medium 1 when he skates to “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” that song was so sick! I actually like all of those homie videos that coming lately.

Those dudes are definitely killing it. You’re right, there are a lot of those crews putting out videos these days, like you have your crew HBK, weren’t you guys putting out a video? What happened there?
Man, the computer crashed and that shit was detrimental to the crew. Now we have to re-digitize all of the tapes. I got some of my best clips before that happened so I actually have my part, but I was waiting to see if the rest of the video was going to be redone so we could put it out together. I might have to just put that out, I don’t know, I just want to finish a project so I can have something.
What’s up with going from riding DOG boards to Civilian boards?
I was stoked on the DOG boards. I was hyped on the shit and I owe Reno so much. I was down, I just fucking wish I could have done something where I could have done something where I could have put something out. And it’s dope with Geoff Day at Civilian, because they’re the same wood, so it’s not much different. They just opened up a warehouse by my house so I’m stoked. I’m pretty picky about my shapes and I like crispy boards and he keeps me riding crispy boards!

No, I wish. I was on Emerica and that shit was dope, I was flowed the same time as Frankie until all of a sudden we weren’t. I was a little salty, but really I guess it was more like when you break up with a girlfriend and you don’t know why so you have to speculate every reason. I still don’t know why, but it’s cool. I guess I never really asked.

Any ladies in your life?
No, I’ve been a shitty boyfriend. I’ve been single for the past year and a half. I just suck when it comes to phones and I suck with feelings. My coolest girlfriend was down to do beer runs with me, she stole a bottle of Henny for my birthday once. She just did this on the fly once at Trader Joe’s. That was the best part, she caught me off guard with that one.
Wait, they have Henny at Trader Joe’s?
They do and they’re not even locked up! Or at least I don’t know about now, but she grabbed it and she had this big ass purse, and then she just randomly made it seem like we were getting in a fight in the middle of the store. I was bamboozled at what was going on, so I was confused for a second. She’s just like, “get away from me,” and then we walked out of the store with the bottle in her purse. I kinda knew what she had just done, but I wasn’t used to doing some acting shit. Usually I just walk right out.
