Lucas Beaufort presents the Heartsy tour. Coming to a city near you this Spring. Check out the interview below to learn more about the tour and how to get involved.
“I think I’ve worked on this Heartsy/Heart project my whole life. Because you don’t do anything without your heart.”
I made a book called Heart, which is a celebration of brick and mortar skateshops. And then after that, I was like, what should I do to keep doing stuff with skateshops? Because to me, they’re the foundation. There’s nothing better than going to a skateshop. After the book, I was like, I want to keep up. But surprisingly, I did that project during Covid, so I couldn’t travel. So I was like, now that I can travel, I want to meet all the skateshops that I worked with for the book, in reality, physically. I decided to do a tour, first in Japan, then in Europe, then in the US. So it was the Heart tour, which was just like meeting all these people from the book for real. And now I want to keep going.
The (Heartsy) tour is more skate related. I want to see some skating, but also I want to be more involved with art because I love to paint. I decided to reach out to those skate shops in the US and say, can we pick a spot in your city, and then we bring the community together. We repaint a spot to give it a second look, more clean, we can maybe fix some cracks and stuff, and then we invite the whole community to skate for a skate jam. We offer pizza, drinks, cash for tricks. And then we finish the day at the skate shop. Everybody together and just hang out.
You might think that this tour is a way for me to put my art everywhere, but that’s not the case. What I want to do is coordinate. The goal for me is to link up with the shop, say do you want to link me up to your homie who paints for the shop, or your friends you skate with that paint. And I have friends in different cities and I want to connect them all because my favorite thing is bringing people together. It’s like, how can I just go there, meet the local artists and whoever wants to be involved, and let’s have fun together? My favorite thing ever is just traveling the world and going to the local skate shop. Just because I want to feel the same vibe that I had when I was 13.
What I hope after this tour is to keep up what I always thought was important to me. I want to remind people that we can be a big fucking army of artists, musicians, shy people, weirdos, dogs, cats, together and let’s go together.
I think in every project you have in your head, you can do this on your own. And that’s amazing because if you do it on your own, you have the freedom to do it the way you want. When you work with people or brands, you have to talk, you got to be like “Why do you want me to be involved?” Same idea as, I want people to come with me and paint together. I think it’s important for me to make sure I have the support from brands, because it’s the same idea. If Asics, or DB, or Pabst wants to support this tour, we are more people to spread the word.
