GSD Weekend Jerz 2019

This past weekend (6/22, 6/23), both Hebrew Hideout and Ann Van Skatepark held events to bring the Jersey scene together in order either build, fund, or simply enjoy the spots built by skaters for skaters.

On Saturday (6/22/19), South Jersey’s Hebrew Hideout held a build day to advance the park and use the space to its fullest potential.

Tucked away in South Jersey, the hideout has become a well respected DIY with such dudes as Freddy Gal, Dan Mercuro, and others contributing the the life of the park.

Built behind an abandoned commercial building, (as most DIY’s are), the space is open for skaters to build, and call their own.

The build lasted all day long with numerous hands in the create. If you like tran, this place is sick.

Ann Van held the AV Summer Slam Jam on Sunday (6/23/19), in order to raise funds for new builds and to session one of the best DIY’s in Jersey. The annual Summer Jam has been going on for 5 + years, and keeps getting better. Each year, the popularity of the contest grows, filtering more and more people every time.

This year, we had double the amount of people than last years jam, and that is an amazing thing. Because of this, more product is able to be given out, more funds come in to make for new builds, more food to be grilled, and more White Claws to be drank.

The Slam Jam held contests such as ledge over turf, mini mega death gap, best trick on the Jersey barrier, an impromptu fold out chair on top of the quarter session, and the White Claw bump to can.

The unofficially sponsored White Claw bump to can, painted by Dewy Calderaro, was the last event of the day. The bump is barely the length of a board, so skating that thing can get pretty gnarly. Filled with trash, your best not to knock it over and be that dude…so you better make it.

It was hot as shit throughout the day, yet everyone was still killing it. I don’t think anyone left  without being able to walk away with some product.

Vans was kind enough to help sponsor the event with a surplus of food for the grill, Claws’, and product for the events.

As Skaters it is our job to help our scene grow, so lend a hand in anyway way you can, and keep your eyes out for the next upcoming event. Go build something.

Shout out to Square Up Skateboards, Vans, DC Shoes, NJ Skateshop, Skate Jawn Magazine, Primitive, Spitfire Wheels, Santa Cruz, Bones, and Real Skateboards.
