PARTICULAR is a skateboarding film shot on Sony VX cameras between the north of Spain and Madrid.
This film was born as a way to give purpose to our routine during the pandemic’s restrictions, which forced us to act like strangers, keeping physical distance while skating and splitting into small groups. Most of the long lens footy is from that time. They also closed down our local skatepark in Logroño, our hometown, so we had to skate elsewhere.
Later on the sun started shinning again. Restrictions were over and we started filming more seriously. We did some skate trips and the film started to take shape. Then Alex decided to stay with us in Logroño for the summer, bringing a lot of fresh energy to the crew. Before that, I can’t remember anyone skating before lunch. He helped out filming a lot too, so we had a really productive summer. Most of the fisheye footage is from that time. At this point, the purpose of the video was then to make something for our future memories we would all be proud of.
We all grew up skating together but then we split ways, moving to different cities and so on. But then, unexpectedly, the pandemic put all of us back in our hometown together, but in a very particular way. We had to make something about it.
“Dooyo” is the name of our crew/collective. Its origin is quite funny: I wanted the film to have a cinematic intro, so I needed some opening credits in the form of “…….Presents.” But I didn’t want to put my name there, it felt weird. So I came up with the name ‘Dooyo’ for that. It is actually is the name of a Somalian song my friend Elias and I wanted to use in the video since the very beginning. It was like our hymn at some point. But then Thrasher released a part with this song and we were bummed. Now I’m glad I didn’t use the song, the video went in a completely different direction music-wise and we managed to still use the name of the song as our crew name.
