Ohio in February is pretty uneventful, but I would say that changed when I received a group text that read “Got mud ordered to the DIY Saturday morning at 8am. Bring a shovel.” That was the start of the first big day at the diy. This day was not the first day at the new DIY spot. The homies had already poured a concrete box with a steep quarter pipe on one side. It wasn’t long after that the vision started to grow, and plans for a 6 ft. quarter and a batwing started to take shape.
After the first box was built, an Instagram account was made to let people know about the spot and how they can help be a part of it. Donations started to come in quick and the support from the Dayton skate scene has been awesome.
The spot is under a highway bridge and doesn’t have a physical address. When the concrete truck was ordered, the company was given an address to a nearby home and we hoped we could stop the driver on the way to have him pull under the bridge instead. We may have had a crispy $100 bill to help change his mind if he said no. The driver didn’t give a shit. When he was flagged down and told we needed him to pull the truck up the side walk the driver just said “Skateboard park in the hood? Alright!”
