“Barretos is a small town located far from the state’s capital city of São Paulo and known for hosting the Festa do Peão de Boiadeiro, the largest rodeo festival in Latin America. Like many countryside towns, Barretos is marked by its abundant nature, peaceful atmosphere, provincial architecture and a large number of oxen, horses and carts that compete for space on the streets and sidewalks with pedestrians, cyclists, cars and, of course, skateboards.
The town is also known for its political and mainly cultural conservatism, which is why types of culture that are not the standard are despised by Barretos’ society. Therefore, skateboarding, punk rock, hardcore, rap, graffiti and all urban manifestations that involve resistance movements are frowned upon by local society. It is in this small town, in short, that the entire film takes place, a crew of skaters who seek to explore the streets of Barretos in search of possibilities for expression and redefinition of the town’s architecture.” – João
