“In a place with not many perfect spots, using the walls can be a common choice. This use causes marks, stains and scratches, leaving the signature of the urban field explorer. Hitting a wall can add up to the composition of a line or even to a single trick, which are fundamental elements of the skate video culture, that tells stories from the recordings of public spaces.

Here the repetition, often seen as an issue, paves the way to an identity of the urban practice. Therefore, many interactions with the walls are made through wallies and wallrides. The process, the endless search and the unity are aspects of Josimar Freire’s work, which can be seen in his visual arts production, and in his musical research as a DJ. Both these languages connected to skateboarding represent the atmosphere shown in this videopart.

Assinaturas 2 was made aproximately throughout three years with constant breaks in between, due to Josimar’s recent surgery and João Victor moving to another state. The street footage was captured mostly in Juiz de Fora, some nearby cities and even in Madrid, showing the intent of spreading the local skating identity of hitting walls, regardless of the structures around.” – João
